83 www.on.legion.ca ONTARIO COMMAND BUTLER, Ross Norman Ross was born on April 19, 1916 in Arkona, Ontario. During World War II he enlisted in the Canadian Army (Active) on July 1, 1942 at #1 District Depot Windsor Detachment. After his training at Chatham and Kingston, Ontario, Ross was transferred to #1 Canadian Signal Rein Unit. He was shipped to England in December 1942 and also served with the Signals Corps, #2 Canadian Division while overseas. His operational areas included the Central Mediterranean area, Italy, France and Germany. His medals consisted of the 1939-1945 Star, Italy Star, France and Germany Star, the Defence Medal, the Canadian Volunteer Service Medal with Clasp and the War Medal 1939-1945. Ross was honourably discharged at London, Ontario on January 29, 1946 at the rank of Signalman. CAMERON, Keith Allan Keith was born on July 9, 1973 in Chilliwack, British Columbia. Keith started out his military career at CMR, College Militaire Royal and then transferring to RMC where he graduated as a 2nd Lieutenant. He began engineering training in Chilliwack and then was assigned to Osnabruck, Germany where he served in the 21st Engineering Regiment (UK) with two tours in Bosnia. He returned to Gagetown, NB attending the Military School of Engineering for three years, then being assigned to 2 Combat Eng. Regiment at Base Petawawa as Operations Officer and Squadron Commander; then taking his Squadron to Afghanistan from 2003 to 2004. Upon his return he was assigned to 31st Canadian Engineering Regiment in St. Thomas, Ontario as Deputy C.O. for two years. He attained his Master’s Degree in Political Science at Western, while in St. Thomas and then assigned for two years in Brussels, as Executive Assistant to the Military Representative. Keith was discharged in August 2010 and received the Afghan Star, International Force/Stabilization Force, Peacekeeping Medal, Special Service Medal (NATO) and Canada Decoration. Returning to Canada in Aylmer Ontario, Keith began a new career as teacher and Principal of the Aylmer Christian Elementary School. CABLE, George William George was born on February 28, 1918 in Swansea (Toronto), Ontario. He enlisted in the Army on September 2, 1940 with the Royal Canadian Artillery during World War II and transferred to RCAMC. He served in Canada, England, Holland, France and Germany. After returning home in 1945, he worked at Sunnybrook hospital until Green Acres Nursing Home opened in Newmarket and continued working there until his retirement. He was a member of the Newmarket Veteran’s Association for 44 years. George passed away on September 14, 1994.
