87 www.on.legion.ca ONTARIO COMMAND CARROLL, Frederick G. A. Frederick was born in York, Toronto on February 10, 1941. He enlisted in the Army in March 1960 and served in Germany, Cyprus and Canada with the 1st Queens Own Rifles of Canada. He was awarded SSM (NATO), SSM UNFICYP and CPSM. After his discharge in March 1969, he returned to the plumbing trade and became Master Plumber and started his own business. He is a member of the Meaford Legion Branch 32. CARTHEW, Charles Innes Charles was born on August 25, 1887, son of William and Jessie Tremain Carthew from Waterloo, Ontario. He enlisted in the Army during World War I and was attached to the Canadian Army Medical Corps, 2nd Battalion. Private Charles Carthew died on June 30, 1919 and is commemorated on page 531 of the First World War Book of Remembrance and is buried at Mount Hope Cemetery in Kitchener-Waterloo, Ontario. CARSON, Lewis Gerald Lewis was born on December 8, 1918 in Tilbury, Ontario and lived in former Harwich Township, near the Town of Blenheim, Ontario. He was 22 years old when he volunteered for service in the Royal Canadian Air Force and served with the Squadron #625 during World War II on August 13, 1941. He was posted at MacDonald, Manitoba where he received bombing and gunnery training. He then was sent to the Maritimes for further training. He graduated with the rank of Warrant Officer Class II. He then was posted overseas to England and bomber command. On January 29, 1944, he volunteered to fly on a bombing mission to Berlin with his girlfriend’s brother as pilot of The Lancaster #DV 364. This plane never returned to base. All seven crew members were killed and have no known graves. W.O.II Lewis Carson age 25 has his name inscribed on the Runnymede War Memorial, Englefield Green, Surry, England.
