89 www.on.legion.ca ONTARIO COMMAND CASEMENT, Lorne Edsel Lorne was born in Bracebridge, Ontario on March 23, 1919. He enlisted in the Army in February 9, 1943 during World War II with the Fort Gary Horse in the tank unit. Lorne did not talk much about his war experience but a small Bible he carried is inscribed with places he served; Oldenburg, Germany on VE day; Groesbeek, Holland; Calais, France and Ostend, Belgium to name a few. When he was discharged in April 1946 and he became a minister in the Free Methodist Church, this was his career. He did join the RCL in Verona and served as their chaplain until it closed. He received the France and Germany Star, the Defence Medal, Canadian Volunteer Service Medal and Clasp and the War Medal 1939-1945 for his service. Lorne passed away on April 10, 2006. CATTON, Albert Laverne Albert was born in Harley, Ontario on August 2, 1925 and moved to Norwich in the spring of 1930. He enlisted in London, Ontario in September 1943 in the Royal Canadian Artillery. He served with the 10th Anti-Tank 5th Division in Canada, the United Kingdom and Continental Europe during World War II. After extensive training as a driving instructor he arrived in England in October 1944 and was kept very busy until the end of the war and then he was sent to Holland to march German prisoners back to Germany. Upon arriving back in England he was given thirty days leave to spend in England or Canada and he chose to stay in England as he was engaged to a Scottish girl from Glasgow. He married on August 22, 1945 and returned to Canada in October 1946. Albert is a member of the Legion Branch 190 Norwich. CATLING, James Robert James was born in Cockburn Island, Ontario on June 11, 1918. He was a farmer and foundry worker. He enlisted in the Army on November 22, 1940 and served with the Queen’s Own Rifles of Canada during World War II. At one time as a Rifleman he was part of the Military Police in Canada. James married Agnus McLeod and had one child Clarence. James was killed in action in Dieppe on June 6, 1944. He had received seven medals.
