91 www.on.legion.ca ONTARIO COMMAND CAVE, John Roger John was born in Hamilton, Ontario on October 4, 1942. He enlisted in the Army in 1959 and served during Peacetime. He was a sapper in the 4th Field Squadron Royal Canadian Engineers stationed in Germany. He was discharged in 1970. While in Europe he developed a passion for Alpine skiing. Upon returning to civilian life he settled in British Columbia. He was also known as Ty King. John passed away on January 15, 2011 at the age of 68 in Vernon, BC. He was a member of Legion Branch 25 in Vernon for ten years. CHABOREK, Eugene John Eugene was born in Ukraine on July 3, 1923. He enlisted in the Navy in May 1941. He served during World War II in the North Atlantic and was a Leading Seaman on the HMCS Hamilton Destroyer, plus three other war ships. He escorted oil tankers to England that were always attacked by German submarines and lost many men. He was discharged in September 1945. He has been a member of Legion Branch 12 for 28 years. CAVE, Oliver Frederick Charles Oliver was born in Claydon, Saskatchewan on January 16, 1915. He enlisted in Lorne Scots Peel Dufferin and Halton Regiment 2nd Division in 1943 Royal Canadian Artillery. He served in Canada, United Kingdom and Continental Europe during World War II. He was wounded in Normandy in 1944. He was awarded the 1939-1945 Star, France and Germany Star, Canadian Volunteer Service Medal and Clasp, Canadian War Medal 1939-1945 and Bronze Oak Leaf. He was mentioned in a dispatch in the London Gazette on April 4, 1946 for Distinguished Service. He was discharged on January 31, 1946. Prior to enlistment, he worked for Inco at Creighton Mine and Otis Fensom Elevators in Hamilton, Ontario. After his return to civilian life he settled in Brant County and became a tobacco share grower where he and his wife raised nine children. He was a 50+ year member of the Telephone City Branch 90 Brantford. Oliver passed away on January 27, 2005 at the age of ninety.
