121 www.on.legion.ca ONTARIO COMMAND COONEY, James Joseph “Jim” Jim was born on June 8, 1880 in Brampton, Ontario and moved to Acton in 1909. He enlisted in the Army on January 6, 1916 with the 164th Battalion with the Princess Pats. During World War I, he was awarded the Distinguished Conduct Medal (DCM) for bravery while in Cambria, France. After returning home to Acton in 1919, he was presented with a gold pocket watch by the citizens of Acton. He was a member of The Royal Canadian Legion Acton Branch 197. Jim passed away in 1935 and was buried with full military honours. COPELAND, James Jeremiah “Jim” Jim was born on October 21, 1920 in Orillia. He enlisted in the Army on September 1, 1942 with the RCA (LTAA) #1 Coy RW. He served in the UK and Continental Europe during World War II. Jim returned from overseas to his wife Mary. He was honourably discharged on February 4, 1946. He was a Royal Canadian Legion member of Branch 561 Elliot Lake for twenty years. Jim passed away in 1977. COONEY, John James “Jack” Jack was born in Acton, Ontario on March 9, 1922. He served in Canada and the United Kingdom during World War II with the Highland Light Infantry. He was a member of The Royal Canadian Legion Branch 197 inActon for more than fifty years and a very proud member of the Acton Legion Choraliers. Singing was one of his favourite past times. Jack passed away on July 15, 2002.
