123 www.on.legion.ca ONTARIO COMMAND COPLAND, Robert Donald Robert was born in Windsor, Ontario on October 17, 1940. He enlisted in the Navy in July 1958. He served for three years as Reserve Bandsman and ten years in the Regular Force. He served in the northern and east coast communication research stations with Comm. Research 291. He was awarded the Canadian Forces’Decoration and Special Service Medals (Alert). Robert worked for Chrysler Canada for 32 years after being released from the military in April 1968. He is a 28-year member of The Royal Canadian Legion Riverside Branch 255 in Windsor. CORNELISSE, Adrianus Adrianus was born on October 14, 1932 in Rotterdam, The Netherlands. He enlisted in the Netherlands Navy on February 14, 1952. He trained for Korea as an Administrator, Intelligence and Reconnaissance. He was never discharged and is legally still enlisted on extended leave. He immigrated to Canada and is a Royal Canadian Legion member of Kanata Branch 638. CORE, Frederick Joseph “Freddie” “Fred” Fred was born on September 19, 1905 in England. He left England at a very young age and came to Canada by himself. He went to Grafton and worked on farms as a helping hand. Then, he moved to Cobourg where he met his sweetheart Catherine Gordon and they were married on December 12, 1940. Fred joined the Army on October 30, 1940 with the Midland Regiment and served overseas during World War II. He was discharged on October 4, 1945 as Sergeant. Fred received the Canadian Volunteer Service Medal with Clasp and the Defence Medal. When the war was over he worked at the 26 COD Army Supply Depot in Cobourg as a Commissioner until his death. He passed away on October 16, 1965. Fred was a twenty-year member of The Royal Canadian Cobourg Legion Branch 133.
