127 www.on.legion.ca ONTARIO COMMAND CRAIGIE, John Albert John was born in Tobermory, Ontario on September 7, 1893. He enlisted in the Army on March 27, 1916 and served with the 160th Bruce Battalion during World War I. He was medically discharged on July 17, 1916. After his discharge he worked for Imperial Oil in Sarnia, ON and also in South America. He eventually moved back to Tobermory where he operated a gas station. John was a member of The Royal Canadian Legion Tobermory Branch 290 before his passing on July 4, 1953. CROCKETT, John Edward John was born in Point Edward, Ontario on August 6, 1921. He enlisted in the Army on September 2, 1939 with the 1st Essex Scottish Regiment. He served in Canada, the United Kingdom, France and Continental Europe during World War II. Private John Crockett was another Essex Scottish hero who has been Mentioned in Dispatches and promoted as the result of gallantry on the Beach at Dieppe. He was wounded and sent to England to recover. He was awarded 1939-1945 Star, the France and Germany Star, the Defence Medal and the Canadian Volunteer Service Metal and Clasp. After his discharge on October 22, 1945, he worked as a Customs Officer before retirement after thirty years. John passed away on November 29, 1982. He was a twenty-year member of The Royal Canadian Legion Branch 255 in Windsor. CRAIGIE, Samuel Clarence “Sam” Samuel was born in Tobermory, Ontario on January 12, 1895. He enlisted in the Army on January 5, 1918 with the 1st Battalion – Western Ontario Regiment. He served in France during World War I. After discharge, Sam returned to Tobermory where he operated a Guide Boat. He was a member of The Royal Canadian Legion Tobermory Branch 290 and passed away in 1978.
