129 www.on.legion.ca ONTARIO COMMAND CULBERT, Harvey William Harvey was born in Dungannon, Ontario on November 20, 1920. He enlisted in the Army in July 1940. Corporal Harvey Culbert went to England with the Perth Regiment in October 1941. His Regiment was then transported to Italy where he served the next year and a half brining supplies to the front lines, often with unreliable trucks, driving through the mountains on narrow roads with no guard rails after dark. From there the Regiment moved through France, Belgium and on to Holland where the Regiment cut the German forces in two. After the war Harvey acquired his farm in 1946 in Dungannon. He married Rebecca Beaton in 1948 and had three daughters Beverley, Arlene and Lynn, four grandchildren and seven great grandchildren. He was Reeve from 1961 to 1963, Road Superintendent of West Wawanosh Township from 1965 to 1975, farmed and then sold seed until he retired. In May 2005, Harvey represented the Perth Regiment in Holland at events marking the sixtieth anniversary of VE Day. He was a Life Member of The Royal Canadian Legion Goderich Branch 109. Harvey passed away on April 10, 2008. DALEY, John John was born on August 16, 1930 in Burnham, Buckinghamshire, England. He enlisted in the Royal Navy in June 1948, serving seven years with the Colours and five years in Reserve. He served in the Korean War from the end of 1951 to 1954 on a destroyer, HMS Comus as a Radar Operator. He returned to England, passed for Leading Seaman and was discharged in August 1955. He met his wife and the family moved to Canada in 1960. He was a member of The Royal Canadian Legion Branch 120 in Georgetown. DAHMER, Alfred Herbert “Alf” Alf was born inAtwood, Ontario on July 27, 1921. He enlisted in the Army onAugust 12, 1942 and served in England and Continental Europe during World War II. Lance Corporal Dahmer was discharged on July 10, 1946 and was awarded the 1939-1945 Star, the France and Germany Star, the Service Medal and the Canadian Volunteer Service Medal with Clasp. He was a member of Captain Fred Campbell VC Royal Canadian Legion Branch 134 for seventy years. Alf married Dorothy on November 10, 1952 and together they raised five children. Alf and Dorothy lost a son in infancy. He owned and operated Dahmer Shoe repair in Mount Forest for several years as well as driving charter and school buses. Alf passed away on November 11, 2007.
