131 www.on.legion.ca ONTARIO COMMAND DANILKO, John E. John was born in Lindsay, Ontario on May 15, 1931. He enlisted in the Canadian Army, Royal Canadian Regiment, 1st Battalion on October 16, 1951 and went through basic training in Petawawa. His 1st Battalion was later changed to the 2nd Battalion, and even later to the 3rd Battalion. He served in Korea with the special force involved in engagement with the enemy at Hill 355 and guarding Prisoners of War at Kojedo Island. He served in Korea from September 1951 until November 1952. On return to London, Ontario, he transferred to an airborne division, and still later served in Germany with a NATO force. John received his honourable discharge on June 7, 1955. His medals include the Korea Medal, UN Service Medal (Korea), Special Service Medal - NATO, UN Peacekeeping Medal and the Canadian Volunteer Service Medal (Korea). John currently resides in Lindsay where he is a member of Sir Sam Hughes Branch 67 of The Royal Canadian Legion with 28 years standing. DAVID, Cecil Harold Cecil was born on March 7, 1924 in London, Ontario. He enlisted in the Canadian Army (Active) to serve duringWorldWar II. Unfortunately not much is known about his service except he served in Canada, England and Belgium. Cecil had a brother, Wesley David who also served in World War II, and his father, Cecil Westley David served in WWI and WWII. Cecil passed away on June 20, 1984. DARK, Ernest James James was born in Bath, England on August 4, 1895. He enlisted as a Private with the 20th Regiment on June 26, 1915, and was posted to the 58th Battalion. He eventually embarked for England arriving there on December 2, 1915. He arrived in France in February 1916 and was steadily promoted through the ranks until achieving Lieutenant in January 1918. He was awarded both the Military Cross and Military Medal for conspicuous gallantry during his service. After the war he immigrated to the USA and served three years with the United States Marines. Returning to Canada, he enlisted at the beginning of World War II serving from 1939 to 1948 with the 48th Highlanders of Canada. He was offered his commission back if he stayed in Canada, but felt he would serve the war effort better overseas. He served in England due to his age, with the rank of Staff Sergeant. He was a member of The Royal Canadian Legion Branch 57 for 31 years. Ernest passed away on March 11, 1976.
