135 www.on.legion.ca ONTARIO COMMAND DAVIDSON, William H. William was born in Bronte, Ontario on October 12, 1898 to Sarah Hiscott. He joined the military on December 28, 1916 and after basic training was attached to the 164th Battalion. On February 1, William was hospitalized at the Military Station Hospital in Hamilton with tonsillitis. The Battalion sailed for England on April 11, 1917 and arrived in England on April 23 with William being posted to West Sandling. He was hospitalized with Rheumatic fever at Shorncliffe Canadian Hospital on May 2, and was released on June 26, 1917. The demobilization of the CEF was in force and William was returned to Canada on September 6 and was discharged on September 17, 1919. In 1952, William was part of 100 Veterans who started Waterloo Branch 530 of The Royal Canadian Legion and is listed as a Charter Member. William H. Davidson died on September 20, 1982 and is buried in the Greenwood Cemetery in Burlington, Ontario. DEAN, George Lewis George was born in Dean Settlement, Halifax Co., NS on March 26, 1933. He was the second oldest of five children born to Seldon and Margaret Dean. His brothers were Oscar, Laurie, Harold and David and his sister was Elizabeth (Bessie). They were raised on their family farm and to George this was a very important part of his life. At fourteen, he went to work in the woods chopping trees with his father. At nineteen, he went to Halifax to join the Army. He served with the Black Watch outfit from 1952 to 1955 and through them served in Korea. He later rejoined the service as a gunner and served from 1958 to 1961. Upon his return, he worked as a truck driver and he drove until his retirement at sixty years old. He met his wife in 1997 and they were together for seventeen amazing years until his passing on August 26, 2015. He was a member of The Royal Canadian Legion Todmorden Branch 10 for 41 years. DAVIS, James James was born on October 28, 1891 in Tipperary, Ireland. He immigrated to Canada and was living in Lion’s Head, County of Bruce, Ontario when he enlisted on April 10, 1916 in the 160th Bruce Battalion, CEF. James served in England as a Sapper. On May 29, 1919 he was discharged, returned home and became a member of The Royal Canadian Legion, Lion’s Head, Branch 202. James passed away in Owen Sound on December 25, 1970.
