137 www.on.legion.ca ONTARIO COMMAND DEAN, Jack Arthur Jack was born in Saint John, New Brunswick on August 12, 1947. He enlisted in the Army on January 27, 1967 and served with the Canadian Forces Postal Unit in Canada and in Germany. Jack was discharged on April 24, 1998. He was awarded the Special Service Medal, Silver Jubilee and Canadian Forces Decoration with one Clasp. He transferred from The Royal Canadian Legion Branch 618 Stittsville to Branch 638 Kanata, where he has been a member for 38 years. DEMERS, Roland Joseph “Roly” Roland was born on October 10, 1922 in Windsor, Ontario. He joined the Army on January 19, 1942 at nineteen years of age and served with the 1st Field Company of the Royal Canadian Engineers of Halifax. He served as a Sapper, and as a dispatch rider, and returned home as a Lance Corporal. He was a member of the Italian Campaign. His service included Sicily, Italy (including the Battle of Ortona), France, Belgium, the Netherlands and finally Germany, where he remained for a year in the occupation force. He was discharged on June 25, 1946. While on leave in Scotland he met his Scottish war bride, Annie, and they settled in Windsor upon his return to Canada. They raised six children and he was owner operator of Demers & Mohr TV & Appliances. Roly is a Life Member of The Royal Canadian Legion Riverside Branch 255 in Windsor. DEMERS, Lorenzo Napoleon “Louis” Louis was born in Hull, Quebec on September 3, 1891. He enlisted in the Army on June 28, 1915 and on April 1, 1916 sailed for England onboard RMS Olympic. During World War I, he served in “C” Company with both the 59th Battalion of the CEF and 20th Canadian Infantry Battalion in England, France and Belgium. He fought in the Battles of the Somme, Flers-Courcelette and Amiens (The 100 Days). He was wounded on several occasions and suffered shell-shock, but always returned to his unit. On May 22, 1919 he returned to Canada on RMS Caronia and was honourably discharged on May 25, 1919. During World War II, Louis served in the Veterans Guard of Canada from January 5, 1943 transporting German Prisoners of War from Espanola, Ontario to a prison camp in Medicine Hat, Alberta. He was honourably discharged as a Private on October 4, 1945. For his service in WWI, Louis was awarded the British War Medal, the Victory Medal, the War Service Badge Class A (212085) and the Bronze Honour Medal for courage and devotion for rescuing a family in France. For WWII, he was awarded the War Medal 1939-1945 and the Canadian Volunteer Service Medal. Louis was a member of The Royal Canadian Legion in Temagami, Haileybury, Cobalt and Cochrane. He passed away on April 6, 1955 and is buried in the Cobalt Veterans Cemetery.
