139 www.on.legion.ca ONTARIO COMMAND DEN HARTOGH, Gerrit “Gerry” Gerry was born on April 10, 1937 in Arnhem, Holland. He enlisted in the Army with the 1st Canadian Guards. He served in Germany and Canada. He was with NATO Forces in Germany from 1959 to 1962. He received the Minster of Veterans Affairs Commendation 2005 for Military Service from 1957 to 1963 and Volunteerism. He was awarded the Legion MSM in 2004 and was a Legion Surveyor for Dominion Command. He was a Life Member of The Royal Canadian Legion. Gerry passed away on December 26, 2016. DIXON, James R. “Bud” James was born in Scobey, Montana on January 29, 1914. He enlisted in the Army during World War II and served with the 7th Medium Artillery in England and Holland. While in Europe, James and J. Black were blown out of their armoured vehicle when it was hit with a mortar round. Bud married Joan (Deane) while stationed in England in June 1945. When they returned to Canada, Bud had several jobs in and around Listowel where he and Joan raised their four children. In the late 1950’s, Bud took the job of custodian for Listowel Central School where he worked until he retired. He was a member of The Royal Canadian Legion in Listowel. James passed away on September 28, 1998. DICK, Louis Bolton “Paddy” Paddy was born in Bally Henry, Belfast, Ireland on May 17,1914. He enlisted in the RAF Air Sea Rescue on April 10, 1942. He served on the Indian Ocean and in Africa and India during World War II as a Flight Sergeant until his discharge on April 3, 1944. Paddy received the Defence Medal, the Atlantic Star and the 1939-1945 Star. He was a member of the British Legion and The Royal Canadian Legion Branch 197, Acton. Paddy passed away on October 20, 1983.
