149 www.on.legion.ca ONTARIO COMMAND DUFF, Douglas Alexander “Doug” Doug was born on April 29, 1929 in Carleton Place, Ontario. He married Gwendolyn Spink from Almonte in 1948. He joined the RCASC in May 1951 and was sent to the Korean War theatre as a dispatch rider. He returned from Korea in June 1953 and was posted to Camp Borden as an instructor. Promotions followed for Doug to Master Warrant Officer at the time he re-mustered to a new trade to the military called Computing devices. He was promoted to Captain and posted to Tunney’s Pasture to become head instructor for National Defence Computing Services and remained in Ottawa until retirement in September 1977 having served 26 years. He was awarded the Korea Medal and the Canadian Decoration with two Clasps. He became active in the community and was President of Carleton Place Legion Branch 192 of The Royal Canadian Legion for three terms. Doug passed away on August 30, 1986. DUFFY, Hazel Hazel was born in Saint John, New Brunswick on November 3, 1925. She enlisted in the Royal Canadian Air Force in 1945 and served in Canada until her discharge in 1949. Hazel passed away on April 14, 2002. DUFF, Douglas M. “Doug” Doug was born in Almonte, Ontario on June 15, 1949. He joined the Air Force on July 23, 1969 in Ottawa, Ontario. His trade was a mobile support equipment operator. Following completion of basic training in Cornwallis, NS, Doug was transferred to CFB Borden for driver trades training. He was then posted to an isolated radar station on Northern Ontario called CFS Sioux Lookout in 1971. After the compulsory one year posting, a posting to CFB Ottawa followed and Doug worked from an underground installation called CFS Carp/Richardson as liaison for Base Transport. In June 1978 he received a posting to 4 Service Battalion in Canadian Mechanized Brigade Group in Lahr, Germany. In July 1982, he returned to Canada to CFB Trenton where he held various positions including IBBS Driver, aircraft refueling, snow and ice control and more. He was promoted to Master Corporal in March 1991. Doug retired from the military in December 1991 after 22 years. He was awarded the NATO Medal and the Canadian Decoration with Clasp. Doug has been a member of various legion branches for a combined service of 49 years. Doug became very active in Trenton Branch 110 in the Colour party and in 2017 was elected Branch President and continues to serve in this position.
