153 www.on.legion.ca ONTARIO COMMAND EDELSON, Jacob Isaac Jacob was born on March 21, 1924 in Grace Hospital, Ottawa. He enlisted in the Air Force on July 8, 1943. He served in Canada and overseas during World War II as a Wireless Air Gunner. He was discharged on February 27, 1946. He was a Royal Canadian Legion charter member of the Kanata Branch 638. Jacob passed away on June 28, 2017. EDIE, Reginald Arthur “Reg” Reg was born in Dunnville, Ontario on January 31, 1937. He enlisted in the Army in Hamilton, ON and was sent to Edmonton, Alberta to take his basic training. He joined the 1st Battalion of Queen’s Own Rifles of Canada in 1955 as Rifleman. The Battalion was scheduled to go to Germany and it was changed to Beirut and they left for Halifax. After three months they were sent back to Calgary to the Currie Barracks. Reg got his honourable release in 1957. He is a 44-year member of The Royal Canadian Legion Branch 142 in Dunnville. EDGAR, William Martin “Bill” Bill was born in Stratford, Ontario on July 10, 1925. Prior to enlisting in the Canadian Army (Active) on May 1, 1944 at the #2 District Depot in Toronto, he served with the Governor General’s Horse Guards as a Reservist fromApril 1942 to January 1944. Bill served overseas from October 1944 to August 1945 and was discharged on September 25, 1945 at the rank of Private. His war medals include the France and Germany Star, the Canadian Volunteer Service Medal with Clasp and the War Medal 1939-1945. Bill again served as a reservist with the 3rdArmoured Regiment in Toronto from September 1946 to April 1947. In January 1951, Bill enrolled in the Royal Canadian Air Force until his discharge in April 1972 at the rank of Major. Bill was awarded the Canadian Forces Decoration for his 21 years of service. He had a thirst for knowledge and loved history. He received a Certificate of Honours Standing in History fromWestern University in London where in 2000 he made a charitable gift annuity contribution to set up a bursary for history students in need of financial assistance. As a Veteran, Bill had received assistance from Veteran Affairs to attend university and wanted to pay it forward.
