159 www.on.legion.ca ONTARIO COMMAND EVERITT, Edwin Joseph “Skinner” Edwin was born on March 24, 1916 in North Bay, Ontario. He enlisted in the Royal Canadian Air Force on January 20, 1940. His training was completed in St. Thomas and Port Stanley, ON. He served with the Safety Equipment Unit packing parachutes in Iceland. He was discharged in October 1945. He was awarded the Canadian Volunteer Service Medal and Clasp and the War Medal 1939-1945. On returning to civilian life, he worked 43 years as a painter with the Ontario Northland Railway in North Bay, ON. He was best known by his nickname “Skinner” and was a proud member of Branch 23 Royal Canadian Legion from 1945 to 1995. Skinner passed away on February 17, 1995. FAVREAU, Claude Claude was born in Montreal, Quebec on October 12, 1942. He enlisted in the Air Force in February 1964 and served in administration in Canada, Germany and the Middle East. He was discharged in July 1995. For his service, Claude was awarded the NATO Medal, UNEF and Canadian Forces Decoration with one Bar. Claude is a 28-year member of The Royal Canadian Kanata Legion Branch 638. FANCY, Vincent Stewart “Buster” Buster was born in Ottawa, Ontario in November 1912 and prior to enlistment worked as a machinist and toolmaker for the National Research Council (NRC) in Ottawa. He enlisted in the Royal Canadian Navy Volunteer Reserve in January 1942. After training, he served on the corvette HMCS Alberni and various other corvettes from July 1942 to August 1945 as an ERA (Engine Room Artificer). In the event of a torpedoing, the engine room personnel were the least likely to survive. Whilst serving on the Alberni, he made many Atlantic Convoy crossings, as well as convoy duties to Gibraltar and North Africa. Buster was transferred off the Alberni in April 1944. In August 1944, the Alberni was sunk by U480 off the Isle of Wight with the loss of 59 of her ships company. Subsequent postings included the corvette HMCS Rosthern. After demobilization and discharge in August 1945, Buster returned to Ottawa and his employment with NRC. He was a Royal Canadian Legion member and enjoyed spending evenings at the local Legion, socializing with his wartime Veteran comrades. Buster passed away in Ottawa on November 10, 1981, age 68.
