161 www.on.legion.ca ONTARIO COMMAND FELL, Frank Harold Frank was born in Beausale, England on March 30, 1894. Frank joined the military on October 27, 1916 and took his training at the Overseas Training Depot in Winnipeg, Manitoba. He was sent overseas, arriving in England on December 30, 1916 and posted to Shorncliffe. He was hospitalized on June 23, 1917 and admitted to the Moore Barrack Canadian Hospital in Shorncliffe where he was diagnosed with influenza. On July 22, he was transferred to the Convalescent Hospital. In August, he was attached to the 4th Division in France. On October 22, 1918, Frank was admitted to the #22 Camiers British Hospital with injuries received in battle, when healed he rejoined his unit. On March 15, 1919, Frank received the Good Conduct Medal and on May 17 was sent back to England and then proceeded to Canada. Frank was discharged on June 6, 1919. In 1952, Frank H. Fell was part of 100 Veterans who started Waterloo Branch 530 of The Royal Canadian Legion and he is listed as a Charter Member. Frank died in 1955 and his name has been inscribed on Plaque #1 of the Waterloo Legion Veteran Memorial Wall. FERGUSON, George U. George was born in Scotland in 1924 and came to Canada when he was two years old. He enlisted in the Army in 1942 and served with the Royal Regiment of Canada. He trained in Britain, landed in Normandy, France on June 16, 1944 and then made his way up to Caen. At the battle at Odon River, they were held up for six days and nights because of steady bombing. Odon River was also known as Bomb Alley. On July 19, 34 men were caught in a barrage of shelling and George was hit. He was patched up in France and sent to a British hospital for three months before being transferred to hospital ship back to Canada. He was discharged in 1945. George still resides in Orillia, Ontario. FELLOWS, Francis Joseph “Joe” Joe was born in Lyndhurst, Ontario on November 4, 1914. He enlisted in the Army in London on June 28, 1942. He served with the RECCEArmoured Corps in Canada, the United Kingdom and Northwest Europe duringWorldWar II. Joe was discharged on February 13, 1946. He was awarded the France and Germany Star, Defence Medal, Canadian Volunteer Service Medal and Clasp, War Medal 1939-1945, Coronation Medal and Canadian Decoration and Bar. He was a Life Member of Officer’s and Sergeant’s Mess of the Elgin Regiment. He was employed by the city of St. Thomas for 39 years in Public Works and retired as the Supt of City Works. Joe passed away on August 21, 2009.
