169 www.on.legion.ca ONTARIO COMMAND FISHER, James Leonard James was born in Strathroy, Ontario on November 10, 1910. He initially started his military service with the Middlesex Huron Regiment in Strathroy and eventually enlisted in the CanadianArmy (Active) on May 1, 1941 at #1 District Depot Wolseley Barracks London. Although James enlisted as a qualified motor mechanic he went on to complete further training at Woodstock, Stratford and Windsor, Ontario. He eventually qualified as a Driver Mechanic maintaining vehicles and motorcycles. Under the command of the #3 Canadian Infantry Reinforcement Unit in England, he served with the Royal Canadian Ordnance Corps, Royal Canadian Electrical and Mechanical Engineers and 22 Canadian General Hospital. He rose through the ranks quickly and became the NCO in charge of motorcycle repairs from 1943 to 1945 in England. James’ medals include the Defence Medal, the Canadian Volunteer Service Medal with Clasp and the War Medal 1939-1945. James was honourably discharged in July 25, 1945 at the rank of Sergeant. James passed away on March 21, 1987. He was a Past President of Sir Arthur Currie Legion Branch 116. FISHER, Raymond George “Ray” Ray was born in Galt (Cambridge), Ontario on September 8, 1923, the middle son of three born to Maude Renwich and John Fisher. He was educated to grade twelve in Galt. Ray joined the Air Force when he was eighteen and in September 1941, left Halifax for England on the Queen Elizabeth. He earned his wings and became a Flying Officer and that lead to him becoming a Navigator Pilot for the Lancaster Bomber flying with #405 Squadron Pathfinder. He had seven men in his crew. They had several dangerous missions across the English Channel to France and Germany, but Ray survived them. In Ray’s words, “I look at my wartime service, not as wasted or evil years, but as years of historical context. It was a time of challenges for young men and an introduction to lasting memories”. Ray died suddenly on February 23, 2001 of a massive heart attack at the age of 77. Ray had been a member of The Royal Canadian Legion Branch 109 in Goderich. FISHER, Kimberly “Kim” Kim was born in Iserlohn, Germany on January 22, 1959. She completed Katimavik and basic training in 1977. She was a unit physical training instructor and served in the Canadian Military Police in Falconbridge, Ontario. Kim was discharged on February 18, 1980. She excelled in all sports and loved nature, the outdoors, and fishing. At the time of her passing on February 28, 2010, she was a correctional service officer in Milton, Ontario.
