173 www.on.legion.ca ONTARIO COMMAND FLEMING, Emerald Nelson Emerald was born in Bosanquet Township, Thedford, Ontario on June 29, 1923. He enlisted in the Army in November 1941 and served during World War II. His unit joined the Essex Scottish Regiment and arrived in France on July 6, 1944. He fought in France, Belgium, Holland and Germany. Emerald was promoted to Corporal. His unit formed part of the 2nd Canadian Infantry Division of the First Canadian Army under General Harry Crerar one month after D-Day invasion of Normandy. On February 19, 1945, Emerald was killed most likely during the battle for the tour of Louisendorf, Germany at age 22. He is buried in Groesbeek CanadianWar Cemetery. FORGET, Pierre Joseph Pierre was born in St. Laurent, Quebec on August 1, 1942. He enlisted in the Air Force on November 27, 1962. He served in Canada, France and Germany as a pilot on light transport planes. Pierre was discharged on November 25, 1974. He was awarded the Special Service Medal but missed qualifying for the Canadian Forces Decoration by two days of service. Pierre is a five-year member of The Royal Canadian Legion Branch 638 Kanata. FORD, Jack Martin Jack was born in Oklahoma City, Oklahoma, USA on January 2, 1922. He served with the 39 RECCE Wing, 414 Photo Unit Squadron in France, Britain, Belgium, Germany and Holland during World War II. Jack received the Knight of the French National Order of the Legion of Honour.
