179 www.on.legion.ca ONTARIO COMMAND FOX, Albert F. Albert was born in Montreal, Quebec on February 19, 1923. He enlisted in the Navy on May 30, 1942 and served in Canada and on the High Seas during World War II on HMCS Restigouche. He was discharged on November 13, 1945. He was awarded the 1939-1945 Star, Atlantic Star, Defence Medal, War Medal 1939-1945 and the Canadian Volunteer Service Medal with Clasp. Albert is a five-year member of Kanata Legion Branch 638. FOX, George William George was born in Windsor, Ontario on July 12, 1924. He enlisted in the Lord Strathcona Horse, 2nd Canadian Regiment, 5th Division on September 10, 1942. He was shipped overseas on April 2, 1943. On his eighteenth birthday he fought in the Italian Company as a tank driver. He was wounded in Italy on September 24, 1944 when his tank was hit by a German 88. After his recovery he returned to duty and finished his tour in the Netherlands. After discharge he returned home and back to his job at L.A. Young Industries Ltd until his retirement. Private Fox passed away on November 22, 2006. FOX, Ernest Sydney Ernest was born on February 10, 1894 in Bury St Edmunds, Suffolk, England. He immigrated to Canada on his own at the age of nine or ten years old to work on the farms in Kingsville and Leamington area. He joined the 1st Canadian Essex Scottish Regiment in 1940 at the age of 46. He was stationed at Camp Borden and shipped overseas on August 22, 1940. He served his duty in England as foot solider and then batman, throughout the Battle of Britain. While there he was able to reconnect with his mother and sister whom he had not seen since coming to Canada. After his discharge, he returned home to his wife and family. By then he had two grandchildren and one on the way. Private Fox passed away on May 21, 1963.
