183 www.on.legion.ca ONTARIO COMMAND FRANKLIN (WILLIAMSON), Margaret Hannah Margaret was born in Roblin, Manitoba on April 9, 1920. She enlisted in the WREN Navy on January 8, 1942. She was on the HMCS Stadacona and HMCS Peregrine duringWorldWar II. Margaret served working in the post office at the base in Halifax, Nova Scotia. She was discharged on February 21, 1946. After leaving the service, she returned to Newmarket, Ontario where she completed a course in dress design. She later married Rex Franklin whom she had met while serving in Halifax. Margaret passed away on April 25, 1962. FREEDMAN, Charles Charles was born in Warsaw, Poland on December 5, 1913 and immigrated to Toronto, Canada when he was about five. He was the middle child of five children to Isaac and Gietel Freedman. Charles only attended school for enough years to be able to write his name. Although he was provided the opportunity to work in his father’s harness making factory, he preferred operating a newsstand selling newspapers. He enlisted on August 9, 1940 with RCASC and transferred overseas on June 24, 1942. He was granted permission to marry Rachel Lebovitch and was married on January 9, 1943 in Hackney, London, England. He returned to Canada and was medically discharged in October 1944. His wife Rachel and son David remained in the UK. Rachel and David followed later and arrived in Toronto on November 19, 1944. He was awarded the Defence Medal, Canadian Volunteer Service Medal and Clasp and the War Medal 1939-1945. Charles died on September 24, 1967 at Baycrest Hospital in Toronto and is buried in Lambton Cemetery. FRASER, Paul Douglas Paul was born in Toronto, Ontario on November 16, 1939. He enlisted in the Army on March 4, 1957 with the 33rd Medium Regiment Cobourg, RCA. He served in Canada and Active two weeks per year at Camp Petawawa. He was a Snare Drummer in the Regiment’s Band. He was discharged on October 19, 1961. Paul is a ten-year member of The Royal Canadian Legion Branch 133 in Cobourg.
