185 www.on.legion.ca ONTARIO COMMAND FULKERSON, John Emery John was born in Maybee Corners, Oxford County on September 19, 1898 to George and Mabel (Innes) Fulkerson. He joined the military on May 30, 1917 and received his basic training at St. Thomas o/s Central Training Depot. He was attached to the 25th Regiment. Report from his training officer was that he was a good candidate for overseas, report from the medical examination that he is in good excellent health, but report from the CO that he is a minor; age being seventeen years and ten months. John was discharged from Carling Heights in London on July 11, 1917. In 1952, John was part of 100 Veterans who started Waterloo Branch 530 of The Royal Canadian Legion and is listed as a Charter Member. GALLAGHER, William “Bill” William was born on July 28, 1919 in Montreal, Quebec. He enlisted in the Navy on September 18, 1937. Bill spent, with the exception of courses and leave, the war at sea. Being a prewar RCNVR member provided him with the experience and training that the rapidly expanding navy members did not possess. He was awarded the Royal Canadian Navy Volunteer Reserve Long Service and Good Conduct Medal, the Canadian Volunteer Service Medal with overseas Clasp, the Atlantic Star, the 19391945 Star and the War Medal 1939-1945. He was discharged on June 29, 1945. On leaving the navy at the end of the war he became a police officer with the Verdun QC Force and with the implementation of the one island police force he became a member of the Montreal Police Force. For his police service he was awarded the long and exemplary service medals. He was a Royal Canadian Legion member of the Kanata Branch 638. Bill passed away on March 15, 2006. GALBRAITH, David Robert David was born in Toronto, Ontario on May 19, 1935. He joined the Navy in 1952 and after his trade training he was sent to Korea to serve as an electrician on HMCS Iroquois. After 42 days he returned to Halifax and was sent to England to serve on the Naval guard for the Coronation. On returning to Canada he served on HMCS Granby, HMCS Porte St. Louis and HMCS Chignecto. He then served at Newport Corners radio station. One of his jobs involved climbing 650 foot towers to change the anti- aircraft lights. He then went for his trade group 2 course and transferred to The Naval Air as a Radar and com tech. He served on four DDH ships and HMCS Bonaventure. He worked on six different squadrons and six different types of aircraft. David spent 26 years in the armed forces and visited over thirty countries. He received the Korea Medal and the Canadian Forces’ Decoration. He was discharged on May 20, 1976 and then worked at an aircraft company maintaining the same aircraft he worked on in the forces. He is a 38-year member of Cobourg Legion Branch 133.
