187 www.on.legion.ca ONTARIO COMMAND GALLOWAY, William “Glen” Glen was born in Dover Township on April 15, 1898. He enlisted around 1917 and went overseas with the 186th Battalion on March 26, 1917 proceeding to France. He was drafted to 18th Battalion September 28, 1917 that unit until the war was over. Glen went to Bonne, Germany with Army of occupation and returned to England in April 1919 and to Canada in May 1919. He served at New Sarum (near St. Thomas) with Security Guard. He was still in service on March 29, 1947. Glen received the Victory Medal, the Canadian Volunteer Service Medal, the British War Medal and the War Medal 1939-1945. Glen passed away December 22, 1949 leaving his wife Hazel (Little) and nine children to carry on with life. GAMBLE, Robert Hodgson Perry “Bobbie” Robert was born in Gowganda, Ontario on May 13, 1920. He attended Upper Canada College and Queen’s University for his schooling. He was living in the Oak Ridge, Ontario area when he enlisted on April 25, 1941. Physical description on enlistment: 5 feet 7 inches tall; 145 lbs.; brown eyes; light brown hair and fair complexion. FlightLieutenant Robert Hodgson Perry Gamble was missing in action on April 4, 1943 while serving with RCAF Squadron 408 in air operations over Essen, Germany. Bobbie was the Pilot on a Halifax bomber, him and his crew of six others were not heard from after they took off from an aerodrome in the UK at 19:45 on April 3. Robert is commemorated on the Runnymede Memorial, Surrey, UK and his name is inscribed on the cenotaph as well as on a plaque in St. Mary’s Anglican Church, both in Richmond Hill. GALWAY, Roy Lane Roy was born on May 6, 1920 in Gananoque, Ontario. He enlisted in the Air Force and served as Flight Sergeant with the 405 Squadron. He was responsible for the proper functionality of the radar equipment. He assisted in North Africa and also helped marking targets for bombing raids. He also made food drops in Holland. He served in Canada, England, North Africa, Holland and Europe during World War II. Roy is a sixty plus member of The Royal Canadian Legion Branch in Listowel.
