191 www.on.legion.ca ONTARIO COMMAND GILL, John Allan John was born in Waterloo, Ontario on February 19, 1933. He enlisted in 1951 and served as a Flying Officer of DC-3’s in the RAF in England and a Flying Officer/Navigator for the Royal Canadian Air Force. He was discharged in 1958. John married Patricia Everett in May 1954, and they both still reside in Ottawa. GILMOUR, Helen Ann Helen was born at home in Renfrew, Ontario on February 15, 1923. She enlisted in the Canadian Women’s Army Corps in Ottawa on May 5, 1943. Her first posting was in Detroit. When serving in Detroit she had her own housing. But when a “race riot” broke out they were transported to the barracks in Windsor and crossed the border daily. Her last post was in London, Ontario until demobilized in June 12, 1946. Helen married Edward Kennedy and settled in the Kingston area and had three boys and one girl. She worked at Queen’s University in periodicals department at Douglas Library until retirement. She is a member at The Royal Canadian Legion Branch 56, Port Colborne and resides in Port Colborne. GILLAP, Rowland Clarence Rowland was born on May 10, 1925 in Dunnville, Ontario. He enlisted in the Army in 1943 and served with the Algonquin Regiment during World War II until his discharge in 1945. He received the War Medal 1939-1945 and the Canadian Volunteer Service Medal. He returned from duty and worked at Atlas Steel in Welland, Ontario and raised a family. He is a member of The Royal Canadian Legion Talbot Trail Branch 613 in Fonthill.
