199 www.on.legion.ca ONTARIO COMMAND GORDON, John Andrew John was born on November 22, 1911 in Cobourg, Ontario. He enlisted in the Army on August 9, 1940 and served in Canada, United Kingdom, Continental Europe and Central MediterraneanArea. John was awarded the 1939-1945 Star, Italy Star, France and Germany Star, Defence Medal and Canadian Volunteer Service Medal with Clasp. When he was discharged on February 8, 1946 and returned to Cobourg, he married Hilda Yates. She passed away in the late 70’s. Later he remarried Kathleen Inch. John worked for the Town of Cobourg and then he was a Janitor at one of the high schools. He was a member of The Royal Canadian Legion Cobourg Branch 133. John passed away on March 12, 1987. GOUGH, Jack Gorden Jack was born in Toronto on May 5, 1924 to Ernest Harold Gough and Hazel Dell (Kearns). He had two sisters, Mary and Marion. On February 24, 1943 he enlisted with the Royal Canadian Navy and proudly served as a Signalman on the HMCS Clayoquot and HMCS Transcona. After his discharge on June 14, 1946, Jack met and married his wife, Lorna and had three children: David, Catherine and Linda. He worked for over forty years in the lab at Canadian General Electric, testing all the high power transformers. Jack loved working with children and volunteered for 51 years with the Waterloo Ringette Association. He represented the Kitchener Waterloo Naval Association for many years as he participated in the “Why We Remember” program put on by the Waterloo Legion for local students. Teaching our local elementary school children the importance of remembrance was something Jack looked forward to every year and found very rewarding. He enjoyed showing the children artifacts from the KW Naval Association and explaining the role of a signalman on the ship. Jack now enjoys spending time with family and especially with his grandchildren and great-grandchildren. GORMAN, Donald “Digger” Digger was born in Fredericton, New Brunswick on May 6, 1922. He enlisted in the Navy during World War II serving with the RCNVR on the North Atlantic and at the Battle of Saint Lawrence. Digger is a ten-year member of The Royal Canadian Legion Todmorden.
