31 www.on.legion.ca ONTARIO COMMAND ALLAIN, Edward J. “Ed” Edward was born in Moncton, New Brunswick on March 18, 1928. He enlisted with the Royal Canadian Army Service on October 23, 1950. He received basic training at Camp Borden, ON, and then on to Fort Louis, Seattle Washington for special training. Ed was deployed from Fort Louis to Korea as advance party, responsible for setting up First Aid posts, kitchens, field hospitals, and munitions compounds. He was one of 125 men who formed the 1st Brigade Ammunition, supplying munitions to the front line where he also engaged in combat duties. He returned to Canada and was discharged from Canadian Forces in May 1953. Ed is a member of The Royal Canadian Legion Branch 76 in Sudbury and is part of the Veterans Group who meets at Branch 220, Shelburne regularly. ALLEN, Anthony Anthony was born in Cambridgeshire, England on July 20, 1890. He immigrated to Tillsonburg from England in 1913 to work as a farm labourer in Culloden. Anthony was employed as a leather finisher when he enlisted in the Army on February 3, 1916. He served with the CEF Oxford’s Own 168th Regiment. He was severely wounded by shrapnel in mid-October 1917 in France and was transferred to the Field Hospital #22 but unfortunately died two weeks later on December 29, 1917. ALLARD, John Paul Roland John was born in Toronto, Ontario on November 12, 1947. He enlisted in the 2nd Battalion Princess Patricia’s Canadian Light Infantry and reported to CFB Griesbach Barracks, Edmonton Alberta in April 1965. John was selected as Best Recruit in the Hitler Line Platoon recruit class and proudly earned his jump wings at RCAF Station Rivers and CFB Shilo, Manitoba. In 1966 he rotated along with the battalion to serve as part of Canada’s NATO Peacekeeping Forces at CFB Fort MacLeod, Hamer, West Germany. Upon completing his enlistment in 1968, John returned to Canada and enrolled at George Brown College graduating grade 12. He joined the Toronto Fire Department on December 3, 1971 and spent over 32 years with the department. He retired in 2004 at the rank of Division Commander in South Command. John currently lives in Whitby, Ontario with his wife. They celebrate 48 years of marriage in 2019. He is a 38-year member of The Royal Canadian Legion Branch 322 Ajax.
