35 www.on.legion.ca ONTARIO COMMAND ANDERSON, Robert Fred Lindsay Robert was born in Guelph, Ontario on December 26, 1919 to Fred and Irene (Richards). He had no siblings. Growing up, his hobbies were collecting stamps and other interesting things. Robert had a job as a cashier at Equitable Life before the service and was very involved with Cub Pack and Scout Troop leadership. His father was a pilot in World War I so he enlisted with the Royal Canadian Air Force on May 6, 1941. Robert completed his training and became part of the 105 RCAF Squadron as anAir Observer. On November 13, 1942, while flying in a de Havilland Mosquito, along with Pilot Flight Officer Charles Andre Graham of the Royal AustralianAir Force, they departed from RAF Marham, Norfolk, England and were shot down by Anti-Aircraft Artillery fire from the German merchant ship Neumark during an attack on German ships off Vlissingen. He is buried in Flushing (Vlissingen) North Cemetery, Zeeland, Netherlands. He is gratefully remembered today as a “Son of Waterloo” and his picture hangs on the Memorial Wall in the City Hall in Waterloo, Ontario. ANDREWS, William “Bill” Bill was born on April 27, 1923 in Ottawa, Ontario. In 1939 he enlisted with the Royal Canadian Engineers in Nova Scotia when he was only sixteen. Following his training he shipped out to England. He landed on Juno Beach in Normandy on DDay. He served as the Allied forces advanced through France, Belgium and into Holland. He was discharged in 1945 and settled in Toronto where he was employed as an engineer with Boeing. He moved to Oakville upon retirement from Boeing and met Eileen at The Royal Canadian Legion Branch 114 in Oakville. They were married in 1980. In his later years he transferred to Branch 486 in Oakville-Bronte. Bill passed away on June 6, 2010. ANDREWS, Henry Gilmore Henry was born in Milton, Ontario on September 11, 1917. On November 11, 1939 he married Gwen Hayward and had three sons: Bruce, Keith and Robert. He enlisted in the Army in 1940 and served as a Trooper with the 1st Hussars during World War II. Henry was discharged in 1945. He was an eleven-year member of The Royal Canadian Legion Branch 197 in Acton. Henry passed away on July 10, 1956.
