37 www.on.legion.ca ONTARIO COMMAND ANGUS, Alexander Jr. Alexander was born in Aberdeen, Scotland on September 18, 1912. He enlisted in the Army in 1939 and was in the first deployment to Europe from Canada before war was declared. He served with the 56RCHA in England, Italy, Germany and Holland during World War II. While on leave in England, he travelled to Aberdeen to find relatives. He met Elizabeth (Betty) and married her at the end of the war. Post war, Alexander worked as an electrician at Hagersville Army Camp, then Norfolk Hydro and at Massey Ferguson. He was a member of The Royal Canadian Legion Branch 123 Waterford. Alexander passed away on May 12, 1991. ANGUS (ALEXANDER), Elizabeth M. “Betty” Betty was born in Aberdeen, Scotland on August 7, 1923. She enlisted in the Air Force and served as a wireless operator during World War II. She met and married Alex Angus and immigrated to Canada as a war bride. Many of her closest friends were also war brides. She worked at Bell Telephone as a switchboard operator in Waterford. She volunteered with the CGIT youth group, was active in the church and a member of The Royal Canadian Legion Branch 123 Waterford. Betty passed away on October 18, 1999. ANGUS, Alexander Sr. Alexander was born in Fyvie, Scotland. He enlisted in the Army in Simcoe and was in the Gordon Highlanders before immigrating to Canada. His attestation papers show that $15 a month from his pay was sent home to his wife Margaret. He served as a sapper and with Nortfolk’s Own 133 and Engineers 123 during World War I. After the war the family settled in Rockford, Ontario. Alexander passed away in 1954.
