39 www.on.legion.ca ONTARIO COMMAND ANGUS, Ian A. Ian was born in Waterloo, Ontario on November 8, 1971. He enlisted in the Navy at Buffalo, New York in 1993. He trained at Parris Island and deployed from Camp Lejeune. He served with the Marine Corps, 1st Co. 6th Division, during the closing of the American Embassy in Iran and rescue of Airman Brady in Bosnia-Herzegovina. Ian also served with the UN Forces with the US Army in Haiti. He was discharged in 1997. He now works as a Health and Safety officer in theYukon Territory. Ian is a member of the Waterford Royal Canadian Legion Branch 123. ARMSTRONG, Thomas Millar Jr. Thomas Jr. was born in Toronto on September 9, 1920. He enlisted in the Army on February 28, 1940 duringWorldWar II. Private Thomas Millar Armstrong was killed in action in Dieppe, France on August 19, 1942 while serving with the Royal Regiment of Canada. He had no known grave and is commemorated on the Brookwood Memorial in Surrey, England. He lived in Richvale, Ontario with his wife Beatrice Lillian. His father was a WWI CEF Veteran and was serving with the Veterans Guards when he died of Leukemia in 1943, just slightly over a year after Thomas Jr. was killed. ARKSY, David “Dave” Dave was born in Toronto, Ontario in 1921. He joined the Queen’s Own Militia in June 1940 and commenced active service on December 11, 1940. Dave went in DDay with the second wave and was taken Prisoner of War five days later. Dave was a Prisoner of War for eleven months surviving the Winter March. He returned to Canada in 1946. Dave again applied for active service with the Royal Canadian Regiment serving in Korea from 1950 to 1954. Dave was awarded the following awards: Campaign Star 1939-1945, France and Germany Star, Defence Medal, Canadian Volunteer Service Medal, War Medal 1939-1945, Canadian Korean Medal, Canadian Volunteer Service Medal for Korea, Canadian Peacekeeping Service Medal, United Nations Service Medal (Korea), 125th Anniversary of Confederation and the Canadian Forces’ Decoration. Dave was a 21-year member of The Royal Canadian Legion, Branch 499 in Angus, Ontario until he passed on the April 24, 2012.
