43 www.on.legion.ca ONTARIO COMMAND ATKINSON, Robert Eldon “Bob” Bob was born in Winnipeg, Manitoba on February 27, 1943. He enlisted in the Canadian Army on October 12, 1961 and went into the Royal Canadian Signals as a Radio Equipment Technician. After basic training in London, ON and trades training in Kingston, Bob served two-and-a-half years in Calgary, ten years in CFB Shilo, five years in CFB Lahr, five years in CFS Debert, five years in NDHQ on the LLAD Project and one year in 1 CSR Kingston. During his career, he made many trips to the C & E School in Kingston on various courses and six months in Egypt and Israel. While in Calgary, Bob met and married Ieleen Horan and they had two sons. He retired as a CWO in November 1991 to the rural area of Lanark County and joined The Royal Canadian Legion Branch 395 in Lanark in June 1995. Since then, he has served three terms as President of Branch 395, Zone Sgt-at-Arms and Zone Commander. AULIS, Lawrence Quinn “Ted” Ted was born in Bury, Quebec in 1928. He enlisted in the Army on May 5, 1944. He served in Canada as Trooper and was honourably discharged in 1945. Ted re-enlisted in the Canadian Navy on October 21, 1948. He was drafted to a Seaman ship training course on board HMCS Ontario which was in the Caribbean. He was posted to the East Coast for training in Radar Plotting and posted to HMCS Magnificent followed by a draft to HMCS Shearwater. He was sent in for a second Radar Plot course and then back to sea until his release in 1953. Ted then joined the RCAF on October 21, 1953 in Montreal and was sent to a Radar station in St. Margarets, NB. Ted spent time in an Examination Unit, Supreme Headquarters Allied Powers Europe and in the USA. He took his release after 25 years in the Air Defence Business (NORAD). Ted is a 45-year member of the Cobourg Legion Branch 133. During Ted’s service he attended the Queen’s Review of Fleet at Spithead after Coronation in 1953, received a letter of appreciation from NATO, a certification of appreciation from SHAPE for four years of service, a letter of appreciation and commendation from Air Defence Command for operation plan and a certificate of appreciation for Meritorious Service with NORAD Forces in USA. Ted was awarded the Canadian Forces’ Decoration and Clasp. ATTWATER, Harry Falconer Harry was born in Brampton, Devonshire, England on March 29, 1894. He arrived in Tillsonburg two years prior to his enlistment, on February 3, 1916. He had been employed on a local farm. Henry married the weekend before he left for Camp Borden. He was later killed in action during a heavy bombardment on the Plumer Trench near Oppy Wood, Pas-de-Calais on April 14, 1918. A shelter, where he and several others were gathered, received a direct hit from an explosive shell.
