55 www.on.legion.ca ONTARIO COMMAND BEARE, William T. William was born in Port Perry, Ontario on February 4, 1921. He served in England with the Air Force during World War II. He was a member of The Royal Canadian Legion Branch 419 Port Perry. William passed away on March 6, 2000. BEAUDOIN, Donald Thomas “Tom” Tom was born in Orillia, Ontario on September 24, 1953. He joined the Canadian Forces in 1971 as a Marine Engineering Artificer – a “stoker” in the Navy – and served for 25 years under Maritime Command. Early on in his career, Tom established himself as an outstanding shooter, earning a trophy for Marksmanship on his Basic Training. Stationed for most of his career on the West Coast, he sailed around the world on ships including HMCS Columbia, HMCS Qu’Appelle, HMCS Kootenay, HMCS Restigouche, HMCS Terra Nova and HMCS Annapolis. He trained to work on steam powered systems, he was, at the time of his retirement in 1996, one of the last stokers in the Navy qualified to work on that generation of steam powered ships. In his retirement, Tom settled on the mainland of BC and pursued his passion for hunting and fishing. Tom passed away on October 20, 2012. BEAUDOIN, Donald N. Donald was born in Hamilton, Ontario on September 29, 1921. He enlisted in the Army in 1939 and served with the 1st Canadian Paratroop Battalion during World War II. He served in Europe being dropped behind enemy lines in Normandy, France on D-Day. He was taken a Prisoner of War on June 6, 1944 and was discharged in 1945. Donald passed away on June 17, 1977.
