67 www.on.legion.ca ONTARIO COMMAND BISNAIRE, Ronald Denis “Ron” Ron was born inWindsor, Ontario onAugust 7, 1940. He enlisted in the USAir Force in December 1959. He trained as an Aircraft Pay-Load Technician (C-130EAircraft). He served and was injured in Vietnam then re-trained back in the USA as a (B-52 Bomber) Maintenance Technician. His later assignments included the Middle East and Europe; while in England, Ron represented the USAF as a member of the Honour Guard (USAF) at Sir Winston Churchill’s funeral in 1965. He received the following awards: Air Force Distinguished Service Cross, the Air Force Combat Readiness Medal, the Air Force Vietnam Service Medal and the Air Force Unit Organization Excellence Award. After discharge in December 1969 he worked with the US Customs as a Customs Consultant to private industries. He is presently a member of The Royal Canadian Legion Branch 594, Tecumseh, Ontario. BLACK, Alfred Ronald “Al” Al was born to Scottish parents in Williamsville, New York on July 17, 1926. His parents immigrated back to Scotland in 1936. He joined the British Army in 1944 during World War II with the Royal Engineers. He served in Belgium, Germany, Italy, Egypt and Palestine. He was discharged in 1948. Al married a lady from Glasgow, Scotland in 1951 and they had two daughters. The family immigrated to Hamilton, Ontario in 1964. Al was widowed in 2001. He retired from Hamilton Street Railway as an upholsterer at 62. He now has four granddaughters and two great grandsons and two great granddaughters. He resides at Portal Village retirement home in Port Colborne. BISSONNETTE, Vincent Victor Vincent was born on January 11, 1927 in Staples, Ontario. He joined the RCAF on February 27, 1946 in Clinton, Ontario and became a radio navigator. He taught navigation in Summerside, PEI from 1951 to 1953. He was transferred to Langar, England from 1953 to 1955 as part of a support team flying the Bristol aircraft in service to the existing jet squadron situated in England, Europe and North Africa – a Cold War effort on Canada’s part. Before returning to Canada in 1956, he was stationed at 1 Air Division HQ in Metz, France. After a few tours of duty in Ontario, he was stationed at the Sea Island base in Richmond, British Columbia where he was liaison officer to the military members attending the two local universities. He finished his career as commanding officer of the Sea Island base and affected the closing of both local military bases. He recently received his 45-year pin for being a Royal Canadian Legion member of Branch 291.
