81 www.on.legion.ca ONTARIO COMMAND BRAND, John Edward John was born on July 31, 1928 in Toronto, Ontario. He enlisted in the Army on February 23, 1949 with the Canadian Army Reserve. He served in Canada until his honourable discharge on January 1, 1954 with rank of Trooper. He was a member of The Royal Canadian Legion Branch 286 in Toronto for fifteen years. John passed away on October 8, 2015. BRENNAN, Barrie Oliver Barrie was born in Ottawa, Ontario on July 2, 1939. He spent four years in the Cadets and Reserves before enlisting in the Canadian Army on October 23, 1956. He joined the Royal Canadian Corps of Signals and took his trades training as a MT/DR in Kingston at Vimy Barracks. His postings were 1CIDSR Camp Borden, two tours with UNEF 1 Middle East, 1Army Sigs Squadron, CFS Carp, and ONUC Congo. Barrie then remustered to Admin Clerk and was posted to NDHQ, CFS Carp, 731 Com Squadron Shilo, DLOTR Ottawa and then back to CFS Carp where he finished his career on June 2, 1993. He received the Canadian Forces’Decoration 2, Canada 125 Award and UN Service Medal. While in Petawawa, Barrie coached hockey and baseball and bought a retail store business. After retiring, he went into woodworking and joined a pipe band. Barrie is a 47 year member of The Royal Canadian Legion and past president of Branch 395 Lanark and resides in Fallbrook in Lanark County, Ontario. BRASS (MONAGUE), Alida Gertrude Alida was born on December 3, 1925 in Christian Island, Ontario. She ran away from the residential school she had been sent to in order to join the Army in 1939. She served with the CWAC in Canada during World War II. She was there for four years. After she was released, she married and raised her large family in the Parkhill, Ontario area. Alida passed away on February 2, 1998.
