83 www.on.legion.ca ONTARIO COMMAND BRENNAN, Jeston Vincent “Buddy” Jeston was born in St. George, Ontario on October 15, 1932. He joined the sea Cadets at twelve years of age in Brantford. He joined the Royal Canadian Army Service Corps 1947 to 1950, served in the Royal Canadian Regiment in Korea from 1950 to 1953 as an Airborne Paratrooper, Special Forces and later retired as a Lieutenant. Jeston also joined the Royal Canadian Engineers, serving from 1955 to 1961. He has acquired several medals such as Canadian Distinguished Service Medal, Queen Diamond Jubilee, Commendation from Ottawa, Presidents Medal from Korea (2009), Korean Service Medal, Sineman Ree Medal, Airborne Medal and Confederation Canadian Medal in Waterloo, Ontario. He championed the creation of the Korean monument which was place in the Listowel Cenotaph park in 2004. Jeston also belongs to the Korean Veterans’ Association in Kitchener and served as Memorial Chairman, assisting other communities in placing Korean War monuments. Jeston has been a Royal Canadian Legion member in Waterloo, Wiarton, Owen Sound and presently Listowel, Ontario. As a Royal Canadian Legion member since 1955, he has held positions of 1st vice, Nevada Chairmen and has volunteered speaking to school children about his past experiences as a member of the Legion for 64 years. Jeston passed away on March 12, 2019. BRIAND, Charles Thomas Charles was born in Port Hope, Ontario on December 26, 1932. He enlisted in the Army on June 7, 1949 with the Midland Regiment. He served as Mechanic RCA Private 1st Class in Port Hope. He received honourable discharge because of pneumonia on July 26, 1949. He worked as a truck driver in civilian life. Charles married Barbara Ann in 1973, has four children and fourteen grandchildren. He is a thirty-year member of The Royal Canadian Legion Branch 133 in Cobourg. BREWER, June Marie June was born on June 9, 1926 in Peterborough, Ontario. She joined the Canadian Women’s Army Corps (CWAC) in Toronto in 1944, completed basic training in Kitchener, and was stationed in Kingston as a Clerk Admin on active service with the Canadian Army. In 1952, she was attested for service with The Windsor Regiment 22ndArmoured Corps. She received the CanadianVolunteer Service ribbon/medal and the War Medal 1939-1945 and was discharged in 1954 holding the rank of Sergeant. She was a member of The Royal Canadian Legion Branch 255 in Windsor. On April 11, 1953, June married former Sergeant Emrys Bevan in a formal military wedding ceremony. They were blessed with seven children, sixteen grandchildren and two great-grandchildren. June was a talented seamstress making clothes for family and customers. In the 1970’s she worked as a Commissionaire in the Windsor Courts and enjoyed being a real estate agent. June remained active in the CWAC attending many reunions in Windsor, London, Peterborough and Ottawa. In 1995, she travelled to Holland to attend the 50th anniversary of the liberation of the Netherlands. Her last CWAC reunion was in Windsor in 1999 - she died on March 2, 2000.
