85 www.on.legion.ca ONTARIO COMMAND BROPHEY, Bertram Orval Bertram was born in Greenway, Ontario on July 5, 1924. He enlisted in the Air Force in August 1943. He did basic training at #1 Manning Depot in Toronto and Flight Gunner training in Manitoba. He was posted overseas in England during World War II. Bertram was reported missing in action on March 25, 1944 over Germany, he flew with the British Lancaster Squadron. Bertram was awarded 1939-1945 Star, the Defence Medal and the Canadian Volunteer Service Medal. His name is in England at Runnymede Coopers Hill. BROWN, Ronald Ronald was born in Yorkshire, England on August 4, 1919. He enlisted in the Air Force on October 28, 1940. He served in England with the 407th Squadron during World War II until his discharge on January 11, 1946. He was married to June Lillian Sears for 52 years and they had three daughters. Ronald passed away on March 19, 1999. BROWN, George Kenneth George was born on November 21, 1923 in East York, Toronto, Ontario. He was the son of Beatrice and Charles Brown. On January 3, 1942 George along with his two best friends Ed Staples and Ted Falkner enlisted in the Toronto Scottish Regiment. George served in England, France, Holland and Germany during World War II. On July 25, 1944 during a battle near Caen, France, George was wounded. After his recovery in England he returned to his regiment. At the end of the war George returned to Canada and was discharged from the Canadian Army on February 25, 1946. He received the Canadian Volunteer Service Medal, 1939-1945 Star, France and Germany Star, War Medal 1939-1945 and the Defence Medal. On August 10, 1946, George married Jane Staples. They lived in East York and raised three children. George worked for the East York Fire Department and rose to the rank of Captain. George passed away on February 24, 1979 eight months after his wife Jane had passed.
