97 www.on.legion.ca ONTARIO COMMAND BUTLER, C. Donald Donald was born in St. Thomas, Ontario on August 11, 1934. He joined the Elgin Regiment Drum and Trumpet Band in 1951 and served until 1956. He left the Band with the rank of Corporal. Donald is a member of The Royal Canadian Legion. BUTTS, Charles Edward Charles was born on September 9, 1968 in Glace Bay, NS. He enrolled in the Canadian Armed Forces as an Infantryman on June 20, 1989 at CFRC Detachment Sydney, NS and completed Basic Training at CFRS Cornwallis, NS. While serving with the First Battalion of the Royal Canadian Regiment in London, ON, his training took place at various locations such as RCR Battle School in Petawawa, ON, Camps Meaford and Ipperwash, ON. Charles also served in a Special Duty Area with the Canadian Field Hospital as Security detail during Operation (Op Scalpel) Desert Storm 23 Feb – Mar 1991 in Al Quaysimah and Al Jubayl Saudi Arabia. He was also deployed to Cornwall, ON during the OKA Crisis. His medals include the Gulf and Kuwait Medal and a Medal awarded by the Kingdom of Saudi Arabia. Charles was honourably discharged on June 15, 1992 at the rank of Private. He is a member of The Royal Canadian Legion Branch 116 in Strathroy. BUTLER, Gerald Campbell “Gerry” Gerry was born on March 23, 1925 in Croydon, England. He enlisted in the Canadian Navy in June 1943 and was sent first to the British Navy on the cruiser HMS Jamaica and doing the Russian “Murmansk Run”. He was awarded the British Arctic Star and the Russian Silver Ushakov Medal. He joined Canada’s 1st cruiser HMS Uganda in 1944 as Captain’s Plotter in the Atlantic, Mediterranean and Pacific theatres. He was awarded the following medals: the Pacific Star, the 1939-1945 Star, the Canadian Volunteer Service Medal and Clasp, and the War Medal 1939-1945. He received his discharge in August 1945.
