103 www.on.legion.ca ONTARIO COMMAND CLARK, Philip Arthur Philip was born on September 29, 1942 in Gabarus, Cape Breton, Nova Scotia. He enlisted in the Royal Canadian Navy in November 1961 and did his basic training in Cornwallis. He served in Canada, and on the High Seas onboard HMCS Nipigon and HMCS Provider. When Philip was discharged in July 1968, he and his wife Marie sailed for two years in the Bahamas and around the coast of Florida. Philip worked for Dupont in Sarnia, ON after retirement. The couple purchased a hobby farm in Bosanquet, near Thedford, ON. Philip then worked in Strathroy, ON doing engineering for the power company for seventeen years. Philip and Marie are enjoying their retirement and their hobby farm. CLAUS, Joe Earl Joe was born in Tillsonburg, Ontario, on March 1, 1956. He enlisted with the Royal Canadian Horse Artillery on December 19, 1974 and served in Canada, Germany and Cyprus. Joe served 21 years in Regular Forces Canada’s Airborne Regiment. He received the Force Commanders Commendation in 1994 for saving an elderly lady from a “rising” lift bridge, Pegasus Bridge, while attending the 50th Anniversary of D-Day in France. Then in 2009, he received the Base Commander’s Commendation for providing CPR to an elderly woman while at a RCHA Reunion. Joe earned four sets of Para Wings: Canada, USA, Germany and Briton. In 1990, he did a UN Peacekeeper tour in Cyprus. Joe was discharged from service on January 1, 1996. CLARK, Randy Randy was born on November 25, 1919 in Thedford, Ontario. He hitchhiked to London, Ontario to enlist on May 20, 1940 during World War II. Randy joined the Army’s Royal Canadian Regiment and served in England, Italy and Holland. His Regiment was in Italy for twenty months, then participated in the liberation of Holland in the spring of 1945. Of the 756 Royal Canadian Regiment members who landed in Pacino, only seventeen were still with the Regiment when they left Italy for Holland. Randy was discharged in May 1945 and returned to life in Thedford. He married Cathy Brown, and they raised three children. Randy worked at Thedford Liquor Store, Camp Ipperwash and Canadian Customs in Sarnia. Randy passed away on July 27, 2013. He is buried at Pinehill Cemetery in Thedford.
