105 www.on.legion.ca ONTARIO COMMAND CLAUS, Shelly Marlene Shelly was born in Pembroke, Ontario, on February 23, 1962. She enlisted in the Regular Armed Forces in September 1985, where she served for ten years. She was initially posted to CFB Ottawa from 1986 until 1992. In 1990, Cpl (ret) Claus served with the United Nations Peacekeeping Force in Syria. While there, the Gulf War began and the area that she was involved with came under attack on numerous occasions by Iraqi Military causing her contingent to take shelter in bunkers. Shelly also served in Calgary, Alberta and CFB Petawawa where she took her retirement in 1995, and now lives in Windsor, Ontario. CLEMENS, Eldon Stephenson Eldon was born in Bosanquet Township, Thedford, Ontario, on September 25, 1897. He enlisted with the Royal Canadian Mounted Police, but due to the use of only one eye, active services were deleted. Eldon was a cook in England until his discharge onApril 29, 1918. He returned home on HMCS Olympic. Eldon married Noreen Robson on September 1, 1923 and bought a farm. They raised a daughter, Marjorie, and a son, George. Eldon also worked at the Pump Station at Ipperwash Provincial Park. Eldon passed away on November 10, 1970. CLAYTON, Kenneth Murchison “Murchy” Kenneth was born in Airdrie, Lanarkshire, Scotland on June 1, 1925. He enlisted in 1942, trained with the 83rd Squadron Wireless School in Winnipeg, Manitoba. Kenneth saw active duty overseas from 1943 to 1945 with the Royal Canadian Air Force. In 1947, he married Betty Hazzard in Mimico, where they had three daughters. For 42 years he worked at Goodyear Tire and Rubber in New Toronto until its closure in 1987. Kenneth currently resides in Etobicoke, Ontario.
