107 www.on.legion.ca ONTARIO COMMAND COBB, Nelson Alexander Nelson was born in Griffin, Saskatchewan on March 2, 1922. He lived in Tillsonburg, Ontario, and graduated from Tillsonburg High School. He was working part-time as a merchant’s clerk when he decided to enlist in the Air Force in July 1940 during World War II. He served in England and Germany. Unfortunately, on a bombing mission to Cologne, the Halifax bomber he was piloting was shot down by flak. Being the last to leave the plane, it exploded too close to him, and Flight Lieutenant Cobb was killed in action on June 29, 1943 in Euskirchen, Germany. The other crew members were imprisoned. COLES, Arthur Robert Arthur was born in New Liskard, Ontario on August 20, 1915. He enlisted during World War II with the Toronto Scottish Regiment on June 20, 1942 and served locally with the Lincoln and Welland Regiment. He was sent overseas where he served in the United Kingdom, Holland and France. Corporal Coles was discharged on December 10, 1945 and received the following medals for his service: the 1939-1945 Star, the France-Germany Star, the Defence Medal, the Canadian Volunteer Service Medal and Clasp and the War Medal 1939-1945. Arthur was a member of The Royal Canadian Legion Branch 24 for ten years. He passed away on July 20, 1972. COLEMAN, John “Donald” Donald was born on July 2, 1922 and lived in Arran Township. He enlisted on September 17, 1942 in the Canadian Army and was a trooper. Donald served with a Mobilization Unit in Canada at Chatham, Dundurn, Saskatchewan and New Westminster, British Columbia during World War II. He was discharged on May 23, 1943 for health reasons. Donald married Lorna Agnes (Welsh) and was a member of IOOF Lodge and The Royal Canadian Legion Owen Sound Branch 6. He passed away on August 2, 1980 and is buried in Hillcrest Cemetery in Tara, Ontario.
