117 www.on.legion.ca ONTARIO COMMAND CRAWFORD, John “Edwin” Edwin was born in Arkona, Ontario in 1890. He joined the Army and served with the 47th Battalion CEF in France during World War II. Edwin was seriously wounded in Europe and was discharged in 1918. When he returned to Canada, he married Effie McLeish. Edwin passed away on September 12, 1931 and is buried in the Arkona Cemetery, Ontario. CUDMORE, Ivan Allan Ivan was born in Canaan Station, New Brunswick in October 1947. He enlisted with the Army in November 1965 in Moncton, NB and was sent to train in London, Ontario. After training, he was posted to Cypress for a six-month stint and then was returned to Canada. Private Cudmore was awarded the United Nations Peacekeeping Medal and the United Nations 100 Medal. After his discharge, he worked in construction in Toronto for about fifteen years, returning to his true profession as a Dry Wall Specialist. He then took employment with Bell for thirty years in the London area. Ivan has been retired for ten years and currently resides with his wife, Marlene, in St. Thomas, Ontario. CROWN, Andrew James “Andy” Andrew was born in Dunnville, Ontario on September 29, 1913. He enlisted with the Army in April 1943, and his service united was Highland Light Infantry. Andy trained in Red Deer, Alberta and was then sent to Aldershot, England. He landed in France the week after D-Day. He drove a munitions truck during the war and travelled to Belgium as well as Germany. Andrew was discharged in June 1946. He returned home to Grand Bend and became a charter member of The Royal Canadian Legion Branch 498 and served this branch actively for 55 years. Andrew passed away on August 28, 2005.
