123 www.on.legion.ca ONTARIO COMMAND DAVIDSON, Thomas Thomas was born on March 29, 1880 in Catford, London England. Private Davidson left behind a wife and four children when he enlisted in the Army on September 29, 1915 to the 71st Battalion out of London. Serving with the 44th Battalion, CEF after arriving in France, he was killed in action on October 25, 1916 near the French town of Courcelette. DAVIS, Oakley Lorne Oakley was born in North Oxford County, Ontario on February 6, 1909. He was employed as a blacksmith’s striker in Mount Bridges and was married with two children when he moved to Tillsonburg, Ontario to enlist in the Royal Canadian Artillery in 1940. After serving in Canada for ten months, he was sent to England in June of 1941. Two years later, he was transferred to the 5th Medium Regiment in the Mediterranean, where he was wounded. Gunner Davis passed away in Coriano, Italy on October 20, 1944, as a result of his service during World War II. DAVIES, Denis John “Bill” Denis was born in Ontario in 1918. He served during World War II with the Royal Canadian Regiment in Canada, England and France. He was taken prisoner on August 19, 1942 at Dieppe and spent over three years in Prisoner of War camps. He would not speak about the war and would not eat potatoes ever again. He worked for Bell Canada until retirement. His wife Hilda predeceased him. They raised two children, John Steven Davis and Wendy Ellen Davies (Whelan). Denis passed away in 1994.
