127 www.on.legion.ca ONTARIO COMMAND DEROCHIE, Earl John Earl was born on September 23, 1924 in Cornwall, Ontario. He enrolled in the Royal Canadian Navy on February 3, 1943 and entered active service on March 8, 1943 during World War II. He served on HMCS Red Deer, a Bangor-class minesweeper. Earl served in Canada and the High Seas. He was discharged on November 19, 1945. He worked at Domtar Paper Mill in Cornwall where he was a liquor burner. Earl re-enlisted in the Stormont, Dundas and Glengarry Highlanders from September 22, 1952 until being honourably released on February 16, 1973 with the rank of Acting-Sergeant. His medals include the Atlantic Star, 1939-1945 Star, Canadian Volunteer Service Medal, War Medal 1939-1945 and the Canadian Forces’ Decoration. He was an avid member of The Royal Canadian Legion John McMartin Branch 297 in Cornwall. Earl passed on July 21, 1981. DEWITT (DIXON), Freda Freda was born in Chorlton-cum-Hardy, Manchester, England on March 30, 1921. She enlisted with the Army for Auxiliary territorial Service during World War II on March 1, 1939. She worked in the records office in Shrewsbury, England, and was promoted to Sergeant. Freda was transferred to the RA Pay Corps in 1941. She married Charles DeWitt from Toronto, Ontario who was in the Canadian Expeditionary Force in the Canadian Army. Freda entertained with the Offpay Follies, Manchester in 1942. She was discharged on January 26, 1945. DEWASHA, Isaiah Isaiah was born to Antoine and Mary Dewasha of the Sahanetien Reserve, Wahta Mohawk territory in the District of Muskoka, Ontario. He enlisted in the Army during World War I on February 15, 1916 in Bala, Ontario at the age of 28. Isaiah was married at the time to May and had two young children. He was assigned to the Canadian Expeditionary Force 122nd Battalion. However, Isaiah became ill while serving in Guelph, ON and his medical records indicate that he was found to have diabetes. As a result of his illness, he was discharged on July 4, 1917 from London, Ontario. Isaiah passed away in January 1975.
