131 www.on.legion.ca ONTARIO COMMAND DIMALINE, William John William was born in Simcoe County on October 4, 1896. He enlisted in 1916 with the 177th Battalion and was posted to the 4th Battalion in England. He served with the Grey and Simcoe Foresters in England, France and Belgium during World War I. Upon discharge in 1918, Private First Class Dimaline resumed his job as a sawyer, then joined the Orillia Post Office as a Postman until his retirement in 1956. He raised eight children: William, Hugh, Anne, Shirley, Bonnie, Robert, Linda and Jane. He was 1st Vice President of the Orillia Royal Canadian Legion Branch 34 in 1945. William passed away in 1972. DONALD, Roy Brownlee Roy was born in Bosanquet Township near Thedford, Ontario, on September 29, 1897, a family of seven boys. Roy enlisted with the Canadian Army on March 14, 1917, which brought him to France. On June 16, 1918, the family received a letter saying he had diphtheria. He was very ill and had also been gassed. Due to his health, he was discharged on June 6, 1918 and told he would have a very restricted life. When he returned, Roy worked in a Bank and moved toWinnipeg. He married and had one son, settled in Port Arthur and worked for Newago Timber Company. Roy passed away on November 2, 1957. DIMALINE, William Oliver William was born in Orillia, Ontario on October 30, 1922. He enlisted in 1940 and after basic training in Camp Borden was sent to Shilo, Manitoba for Para-chute training. Corporal Dimaline went overseas in June 1943 with the Sherbrook Fusiliers and landed in France on D-Day. He served in France, Belgium and Holland. William was discharged in 1945. On return home, Sergeant Dimaline drove heavy equipment for construction companies. He was the proud father of seven children. William passed away on October 8, 1977.
