133 www.on.legion.ca ONTARIO COMMAND DORSCHT, Gerald John Gerald was born on November 21, 1921 in the Waterloo Region (Bamburg) to Frederick and Olive. He had two siblings, Marie and Herbert. Gerald worked as a machine set-up man prior to enlisting. He enlisted with The Royal Canadian Engineers, served briefly as a Sapper, and was discharged during training in Canada when it was realized he was underage. He re-enlisted with the Army as a rifleman on February 11, 1943, where he was a member of the Royal Winnipeg Rifles and served in Canada, United Kingdom as well as North West Europe. Rifleman Gerald Dorscht was killed during active service in Belgium on October 14, 1944, in Belgium. He was awarded the 1939-1945 Star, France and Germany Star and the Canadian Volunteer Service Medal and Clasp. His mother received the Memorial Cross. He is buried in Group 1, Row G, Plot 9 at the Adegem Canadian War Cemetery, Belgium. Gerald is gratefully remembered as a “Son of Waterloo” and his picture hangs on the Memorial Wall in the City Hall in Waterloo, Ontario. DOWNE, Norman Breton Norman was born in London, Ontario on June 3, 1957. He served in Canada with the 4 Battalion RCR from October 9, 1975 to June 15, 1977; ROTP from June 15, 1977 to June 12, 1978; 1 Hussars from June 12, 1978 to October 21, 1978. He is a four-year member of The Royal Canadian Legion Vimy Branch 145. DOVE, Herbert Herbert was born on April 9, 1893, in Northampton, England. He was working as a section hand on the Michigan Central Railroad in Tillsonburg before enlisting in the Army on August 11, 1915. He served in the trenches for only three months before he was killed by shrapnel on September 14, 1916, in Courcelette, France.
