151 www.on.legion.ca ONTARIO COMMAND ERVIN, Thomas Albert “Tom” Tom Ervin was born on September 22, 1944 in Saint John, New Brunswick. He enlisted in the Royal CanadianAir Force in 1964, at the age of nineteen, and served at CFB Downsview, CFB Summerside, CFHQ, and ATC. He retired from the Air Force in 1969. He is currently a valued member of the Royal Canadian Legion Branch 216 in Petrolia, Ontario. FAIRS, George Henry George was born on September 19, 1897 in Surrey, England. Private Fairs and his family immigrated to Tillsonburg in 1907 and when he turned eighteen, he enlisted into the Army with the CEF Oxford’s Own 168th Battalion on June 6, 1916. The report of his death says “just after the company of the 2nd Battalion to which Pte. Fairs belonged had reached its objective on the Arras-Cambrai Road. Near the village of Haynecourt, France, he was struck by enemy machine gun bullets and died instantly”. George died on September 27, 1918. FAIRBARN, Clifford Ernest Clifford was born in Queensville, Ontario on May 27, 1918, to Ernest and Lavina Fairbarn. He enlisted in the Army in 1939 and served during World War II in Continental Europe and Italy with the Royal Canadian Artillery. L/Bombardier Clifford Fairbarn was killed in action in Italy on December 14, 1943. His remains were laid to rest in Moro River Canadian War Cemetery, San Donato, Italy.
