157 www.on.legion.ca ONTARIO COMMAND FISHER, Frank Lester Frank was born on November 1, 1908, in South Middleton, Norfolk County. He lived with his family in Tillsonburg when he enlisted into the Army during World War II. He served as a Major in the Stormont, Dundas and Glengarry Highlanders. He was killed in action on July 8, 1944, the date of Operation Charnwood, an Anglo-Canadian Offensive during the Battle for Caen. FISHER, Walter Walter was born on November 17, 1893, in Nottinghamshire, England. At the age of thirteen, he immigrated by himself to live with his parents in Brownsville and then Culloden. On July 13, 1915, he enlisted with the CEF 13th Battalion in London, ON and was shipped to England in October. In May, he went to France with the 13th Royal Highlanders of Canada and was killed on June 5, 1916, while on a working party near Maple Copse, Mount Sorrel, Belgium. FISHER, Harry Wilfred Harry was born February 27, 1893 in South Middleton, Norfolk County. He married one month before enlisting in the Army on March 2, 1916 to the 168th Battalion, CEF Oxford’s Own. Harry was awarded the Military Medal in April 1918. The local newspaper’s account of his death on September 30, 1918, in Upton Wood, France read: “He was a well-known and highly popular resident of Tillsonburg. He conducted a successful milk business here and was killed instantly by an enemy shell and was buried at Upton Wood, Cemetery”.
