175 www.on.legion.ca ONTARIO COMMAND GOEBEL, Allan Ronald Allan was born onAugust 22, 1938 in Neudorf, Saskatchewan, to George and Mary (Claridge) Goebel. He has six siblings: Don, Jean, Mervyn, Roland, Gerald and Richard. Allan is the nephew of Albert and Louis Goebel, who both served with the Army during World War II. On September 24, 1956, Allan joined the Army - Regular Force with the 2nd Battalion of the Canadian Guards. Lance Corporal Goebel served during peacetime in Canada and Germany until his discharge on December 9, 1959. Allan earned Honours in a Bachelor’s Degree at Wilfrid Laurier University and his Master’s Degree at York University. He worked as a Psychologist in the Region of Waterloo until his retirement. Allan is married to Myrna Lenore (Schroeder) and they have two daughters, Dianne and Laurie. He likes to spend time reading, working out, watching movies and enjoying family time at home in Waterloo. GOLDEN, Thomas Albert Thomas was born on March 14, 1895 in Southampton, Ontario. On February 4, 1916, he enlisted with the Army and served with the 160th Battalion Canadian Expeditionary Force. Thomas served in England and France during World War I. Corporal Thomas Golden was wounded inArras, France. He was a charter member of The Royal Canadian Legion Tobermory Branch 290. Thomas passed in 1949. GOEBEL, Louis Frank Louis Goebel was born on May 8, 1923 in Neudorf, Saskatchewan. His parents were Philip and Emilia (Muller). He had eleven siblings: Jake, Lizzie, Ralph, Val, Mary, Philip, George, Dolly, Millie, Linda and Albert (Albert also served in World War II as a Lance Corporal with the Royal Canadian Army Service Corps). Louis enlisted with the Royal Canadian Army Medical Corps on October 10, 1941. As a Sergeant with the Medical Corps, Louis served in the Italian Campaign during World War II. As the war had ended, he was discharged on November 12, 1945, earning the 1939-1945 Star, Italy Star, Defence Medal, Canadian Volunteer Service Medal and the War Medal 1939-1945. Louis settled in Kitchener, found work in a factory and married Margaret (Doherty). Sadly, Louis Goebel passed away on November 14, 1966 at age 43. He is buried in Woodland Cemetery in Kitchener, Ontario.
