183 www.on.legion.ca ONTARIO COMMAND GREAVES, William Charles “Bill” Bill was born inWindsor, Ontario on January 5, 1926. At the young age of sixteen, he enlisted in the Army duringWorldWar II with D Company of the Essex Scottish Regiment (CASF) on October 6, 1942. He bravely fought in the United Kingdom and France and was seriously wounded in July 1944 at Verrières Ridge in France, which was the first battle of 2nd Canadian Infantry Division in Normandy. After months of recuperation overseas, Bill was discharged on July 21, 1945 and returned home to Windsor. He married, raised nine children and worked at Hiram Walkers & Sons Distillery. Bill passed away on July 10, 2000 and is lovingly remembered by his large family and circle of friends. He was a proud member of The Royal Canadian Legion Metropolitan Branch 594 in Tecumseh, ON. GREEN, Ronald Larry “Ron” Ron was born in St. Catharines, Ontario on July 20, 1949. Since enlisting in the Army’s Regular Force and Reserves on February 3, 1966 as a Gunner in the 57th Field Regiment, Ron was promoted through the ranks and he held the following positions NCM positions. In the 56 Field Regiment. He served as the Battery Sergeant Major for the 10 St. Catharines Field Battery and Romeo Battery. In the 11 Field Regiment he served as the BSM for the 11th (Hamilton-Wentworth) Battery, 29 and Headquarters Battery in Guelph and RSM of the Regiment from 1989 to 1995. In 1995, he commissioned and promoted to the rank of Captain. He served as the Battery Commander for 69 Battery, 10 Battery, Headquarters Battery and Adjutant of 56 Field Regiment upon his retirement in 2004. He was awarded the Canadian Forces’ Decoration with two Bars, the 125th Anniversary of the Confederation of Canada Medal, the Queen Elizabeth II Golden Jubilee Medal, the Serving Brother of St. John and the St. John Service Medal. Ron has been a member of The Royal Canadian Legion H.T. Church Branch 24 in St. Catharines for 47 years. GREEN, Leonard Edward Leonard was born on February 25, 1928 in Plumstead West Woolwich, County of London. He volunteered at the age of seventeen for RAF. He enlisted on October 31, 1945 and served as a messenger in Civil Defense. He served in Egypt and Palestine when the Arab/Israeli war started. He was posted to Cyprus to open up a Station in Nicosia. He was discharged on July 26, 1948. Leonard re-enlisted on June 28, 1955 with the RCAF and was discharged on June 27, 1965. He joined the London Fire Brigade on release from the RAF. Leonard is a thirty-year member of The Royal Canadian Legion in Rivers, Manitoba; Colborne, Lindsay, and Fenelon Falls.
