185 www.on.legion.ca ONTARIO COMMAND GREENFIELD, Edward Victor Edward was born on August 3, 1938, in Toronto, Ontario. He enlisted on April 1, 1957, in the Royal Canadian Navy. Edward was 25 years in the Royal Canadian Navy serving on the North Atlantic, Caribbean Sea, North Africa to Russia. He was discharged in 1981 for his services. Edward received the NATO, Queen’s Jubilee and Canadian Forces’ Decoration medals. He has been involved with the Masonic Lodge for 39 years holding numerous positions in the Royal Arch Masons and continues to do so. He is also the President toWhite Ensign Branch 27 Halifax for seven years. GREENWOOD, Edwin Joseph Edwin was born in London, England on July 23, 1898. He and his twin brother, Henry John, were later well known as the “Gold Dust Twins” in Tillsonburg, Ontario. When Edwin and Henry were seventeen, they both enlisted in the Canadian Expeditionary Force “Oxford’s Own” 168th Battalion on January 25, 1916, which took them to serve in France during the First World War. Edwin had written to a friend in Tillsonburg on March 10, 1918, saying “To let you know I am still alive…,” but Edwin was killed in action about a month later, on April 6, 1918, near Arras, France. GREENFIELD, Henry Henry was born on November 18, 1925 in Toronto, Ontario. He enlisted in the Army, Regular Forces on April 12, 1943, and served in the Toronto Signal Corps. He played in the band across Canada and the United States of America. He was awarded the Canadian Decoration medal. He was a Member of The Royal Canadian Legion Swansea Branch 46 and Collingwood Branch 63 for a total of fifty years. He was discharged on September 29, 1946. Henry passed away on October 28, 2014.
