187 www.on.legion.ca ONTARIO COMMAND GUTHRIE, Murray Stewart Murray was born July 1, 1923, in Almonte, Ontario. He enlisted in the RCAF on July 1, 1941. He was posted to Camp Borden for his initial training and then went to Guelph Agricultural College for training as a chef. Murray was stationed at Rockcliffe Airport. He went back to Camp Borden as a chef for Number 1 Service Flying Training School where they trained aircrew in bombing and gunnery. Murray was then posted to Topcliffe, Yorkshire, England as a chef with Bomber Command. He also served at Wombleton and Tholthrope bomber stations in England. Murray then came back to Topcliffe repatriation depot, where he was in charge of food services. In 1944, while overseas he met and married his wife Grace Hollins who served in the British Army Auxiliary Territorial Service. Murray returned to Canada on the Queen Elizabeth ship to NewYork and then to Lachine, Quebec where he was released from service in 1946. He then worked for Rosamond Woolen Company in Almonte for four years. Murray then went into the pick up and delivery service, and was employed at Fairview Manor until he retired at the age of 75. Murray is a 73-year member of the Royal Canadian Legion Branch 240 Almonte. HACKETT, Robert James “Bob” Robert was born on April 30, 1937 in Verdun, Quebec. He enlisted on August 4, 1954, in Montreal with the Princess Patricia’s Canadian Light Infantry. He was sent to Germany and Europe as Occupational Troops for two years with NATO. Robert qualified as a Paratrooper and was honorably discharged on January 4, 1958. He also received the NATO Medal. Robert is a member of The Royal Canadian Legion Bowmanville Branch 178 for fourteen years. GUY, Stephane Stephane was born in Hull, Quebec on April 6, 1960. On May 31, 1978 he enlisted with The Air Force. Stephane served in Canada, Egypt, Haiti, Kosovo, Bosnia, Afghanistan, Rwanda. During his time served, he was a Flight Engineer and deployed extensively including five tours of six months and multiple tours of one to two months deployments. He achieved the rank of Chief Warrant Officer, raised through the Chain of Command to become the Canadian Forces Europe CWO as the last assignment. Stephane served for 35 years and was accepted as a member in the Order of Military merit. He is the author of the published leadership article: The Command Team, a key enabler and participated to an international working group that produced a curriculum for professional NCO which was published in 2013. He is a member of The Royal Canadian Legion Branch 641 for six years. Stephane was discharged on September 1, 2013.
