191 www.on.legion.ca ONTARIO COMMAND HALL, Charles Chesney Charles was born on June 1, 1916 at King Lake just west of South River, Ontario. He enlisted in the summer of 1942 and was married October 26, 1942. He left for England in 1942 as an Anti Air Craft gunner. He spent time in Holland, Belgium and Germany during World War II. He returned to England and while waiting for transport back home, he spent several months training as a mason. Upon return and discharge on January 26, 1946, he started his own business as a stone mason until retirement when he was 75. He was a Life Member of the Royal Canadian Legion branch 467. Charles passed away January 26, 2003. HALL, Thomas Marshall “Marsh” Marsh was born in Chapman Township, District of Parry Sound on September 16, 1922. He joined the Algonquin Regiment during World War II on September 2, 1941, later transferred to the Royal Canadian Regiment. He was sent to the Italian front where he took part in The Hitler Line, Gustau Line, Ortona, and Ponte Coupons. At the Remini airport and PO Valley attack he was severely injured and was not expected to survive at the Field Hospital. In 1946, he was released from a Toronto Hospital and returned to Sundridge where he became a master carpenter and surveyor. He is a life member of The Royal Canadian Legion Sundridge Branch 467. At the age of 97, he drives to the Branch daily for his glass of draft and plays pool weekly. He is an inspiration to his Branch and Community. Marsh carries nine pieces of shrapnel in his body as a reminder of his service. HALL, George George was born in Ingersoll, Ontario on March 27, 1919. He attended both Brownsville Public School and Tillsonburg High School. After a stint as a deliveryman and grocery clerk, George began working at the local Borden factory until he enlisted in the Royal Canadian Air Force on December 30, 1940 during World War Two. While serving overseas as a wireless operator air gunner in England, their Wellington bomber failed to return from a mine-laying operation along the coast of France onAugust 4, 1942. F/S Hall and the flight crew are buried on Noirmoutier Island, France.
